Quarterly results show State on the rise

Queensland is setting the pace when it comes to economic growth and delivery of front line services according to the latest quarterly update which was released today.

Premier Campbell Newman said the results showed the Government was delivering on its election promises with outstanding results.

“It is clear the things that really matter to Queensland families such as health, education and the economy are far better now than what they were two years ago under Labor,” Mr Newman said.

“The results speak for themselves.

“After injecting an extra $1.2 billion into the Health budget, our elective surgery waiting lists are now the best in the country.

“In our emergency departments, we now have 78 per cent of patients being treated within 4 hours, compared to Labor’s dismal record of 63 per cent just two years ago.

“Going back to about 15 months ago, there were about 62,500 people on the public dental waiting list and today there is just over 1,700.

Mr Newman said other highlights from the quarterly report included:

  • reduced public housing wait lists by 36 percent in two years
  • more jobs being created in Queensland that any other state in the past twelve months
  • a record number of visitors from China in the past year contributing more than $585 million to our economy
  • more Queensland train passengers are getting to their destination when they should, with new figures showing train on-time running has reached its highest ever level

“There is so much happening in Queensland and I thank all hard working government employees who have contributed to these great results.

“From day one we have had an ambitious plan to get Queensland back on track.

“All Queenslanders can see for themselves and take pride in the results.”
