State budget: $3 billion for North Metropolitan
Perth’s North Metropolitan region will benefit from a $641.3million investment in public transport and road infrastructure as part of a $3billion four-year investment in the State Budget.
Treasurer Mike Nahan said as one of Perth’s fastest-growing areas, it was a key beneficiary of the State Government’s significant investment in transport and traffic improvement measures.
These include $320million over four years to extend the Mitchell Freeway from Burns Beach Road to Hester Avenue to relieve pressure on local roads in the growth suburbs of Clarkson, Butler and Jindalee and cater for future residential developments further north.
The budget also includes $32.9million over the next two years for the extension of the northern suburbs rail line to Butler and $43million to turn a 2.2km section of the heavily used Reid Highway into dual carriageways between Duffy and Erindale roads.
In health, the budget includes $715.4million for infrastructure works over the next four years, including $460.6million to complete construction of Perth Children’s Hospital and $29.9million towards the redevelopment of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and the new mental health unit.
“These projects form part of the Government’s $7billion, 10-year capital works program that is delivering world-class healthcare to families across Western Australia,” the Treasurer said.
Dr Nahan said the 2014-15 State Budget built on the Liberal National Government’s strong record of delivering the infrastructure and services needed to support future generations of West Australians.
“The investment in the growing North Metropolitan region is part of the Government’s vision to build and support our growing State,” he said
