Cutting red tape for landlords and tenants

The State Government is continuing its drive to cut red tape for South Australians, this time focusing on landlords and tenants with a new online bonds system.

Minister for Business Services and Consumers Gail Gago said the Residential Bonds Online service allows for the secure online and paperless management of residential bonds 24/7.

“This system has been designed to speed up and simplify the processes associated with residential bonds.

“This will benefit landlords, agents and tenants by enabling easier communication between parties and faster transactions.

“A transaction that once took weeks can now be done almost instantly.

“The system allows real estate agents, self-managed landlords and tenants to lodge refunds and manage their bonds any time of the day or night, and to monitor them from anywhere in the world.

“The State Government is committed to reducing red tape and freeing up time for South Australians to do the things they’d rather be doing,” Ms Gago said.

Since the online system was introduced as a trial in February 2014, 54 agencies have been trained in how to use it and 36 agents have gone live.

There are currently 13,585 bonds being held online.
