Elizabeth Quay master plan taking shape
When Elizabeth Quay opens to the public late next year, visitors will be able to enjoy waterfront dining, family friendly activities, events and entertainment.
Planning Minister John Day said the design and construction of three food and beverage outlets had been included in the works program with a call for expressions of interest from high calibre operators.
“One of the main entrances on the west of Elizabeth Quay will have a venue for casual and alfresco dining overlooking an interactive water playground,” Mr Day said.
“A two-storey venue on the eastern promenade will also provide opportunities for waterfront and rooftop dining.”
The Minister said the third restaurant venue would be the reconstructed Florence Hummerston Kiosk – one of the key elements of the island.
“Providing a landing point for the new bridge across the inlet – and a major part of recreating the ‘bridges’ walking and cycling route around the river – the island will be a popular place for people to admire and photograph Perth’s skyline and a welcome spot for leisure and relaxation,” he said.
“It will feature a children’s playground and jetty to accommodate seasonal mooring of the replica Duyfken ship, with the original 1928 kiosk transformed to a new venue that caters for families, visitors and tourists.”
Mr Day said Elizabeth Quay was an important part of a bold plan by the State Government to transform our city and reconnect the CBD with the Swan River.
“West Australians are always looking for new opportunities to enjoy Perth’s natural assets such as the Swan River and our iconic beaches. These venues meet that brief while also complementing the unique laneways, precincts and event spaces throughout the city,” he said.
