1,200 lots to lift Perth’s affordable land supply

Housing Minister Bill Marmion has congratulated the Department of Housing on the $46.1million sale this week of two parcels of land expected to yield 1,200 residential lots in Perth’s eastern and northern suburbs.

Peet Ltd and ABN Group will develop more than 600 lots in Midvale, close to the Midland town centre.  Stockland’s project will produce 570 lots at Brabham, east of Whiteman Park, next door to its Whiteman Edge development.

“This is a big boost to our metropolitan land supply at a crucial time. The State Government is delivering affordable land in rapidly growing areas, while also yielding affordable housing outcomes,” Mr Marmion said.

“These sales are great examples of some of the positive results of our Affordable Housing Strategy 2010- 2020; Opening Doors to Affordable Housing.”

Stockland was successful in its submission to acquire the Brabham land, with the delivery of affordable properties to the market an important part of its proposal.

The company previously entered into a partnership with the Department of Housing in the successful Sienna Wood development in Perth’s south-east.

A similar department partnership with Peet Ltd produced the innovative urban renewal project Quattro, in New Queens Park, and the new community of Golden Bay.

“I am confident Perth homebuyers will be the big winners from both new projects,” the Minister said.

“The department will continue working with Peet Ltd and ABN Group to investigate the affordable housing potential of the exciting new Midvale development.

“This will help ensure the rapidly growing Midland region is accessible to a wide range of West Australians, including the important first homebuyer market.”
