sport infrastructure: 300 Opal-enabled buses set for South West Sydney

300 new Opal-enabled bus routes will be introduced in South-West Sydney and Hurstville by mid-July 2014.

The timeline for the launch of Opal’s new South West Sydney services includes:

  • Monday 14 July – Opal will go live on the Transit Systems buses network, operating across suburbs including Liverpool, Bonnyrigg, Fairfield, Wetherill Park, Merrylands, Greystanes and Parramatta.
  • Wednesday 16 July – Punchbowl Bus Services will go live with Opal across 35 suburbs including Hurstville, Roselands, Lakemba, Bankstown and Burwood.

This latest Opal rollout comes as Transport for NSW has confirmed that 14 paper tickets will be retired on 1 September 2014. These paper tickets include:

Train

  • Adult Off-Peak Return
  • Adult Weekly (7 Day)
  • Adult Fortnightly (14 Day)
  • Adult Quarterly (90 Day)
  • Adult Yearly (365 Day)
  • Concessions Monthly (28 Day)
  • Concessions Quarterly (90 Day)
  • Concessions Yearly (365 Day)

Ferry

  • Adult Travel Ten

Light Rail

  • Adult Yearly (365 Day)

MyMulti

  • Adult Monthly (28 Day)
  • Adult Quarterly (90 Day)
  • Adult Yearly (365 Day)

Transport for NSW have also launched the Opal Man campaign, encouraging public transport users to switch to the faster, cheaper and more efficient Opal Card services.
