Infrastructure: Traffic relief coming soon for M5 motorists

The first stage of the M5 West Widening Project will open to motorists in the next fortnight.

The $400 million road infrastructure project is scheduled to be open to traffic by December 2014.

NSW Premier and Minister for Western Sydney Mike Baird said the widened roads will make life easier by cutting traffic times for motorists in South Western Sydney.

“In the coming weeks, motorists using the M5 will be able to use additional lanes in sections of both the east and westbound carriageways, extending from two to three lanes in each direction,” Mr Baird said.

“These improvements will mean commuters will start experiencing improved traffic flow and faster travel times, particularly during peak hour periods to get people home faster”.

The M5 West widening project is primarily funded by Interlink Roads. The NSW Government contributed $50 million towards the cost of new and improved noise walls and noise mitigation measures for nearby residents.
