Expanded Western Sydney employment area to create 57,000 new jobs
The Western Sydney Employment Area is set to be expanded by 4,500 hectares. This is expected to be a major jobs boost for the region.
The expanded Western Sydney Employment Area (WSEA) will take advantage of strong road links and transport infrastructure, including Sydney’s second airport at Badgery’s Creek.
The Government released a draft structure plan for the broader WSEA in 2013, which included a proposal for an expanded boundary. The expanded WSEA will adjoin land set aside for the second Sydney airport, and the South West Growth Centre.
The extension will increase the employment area boundary south to Elizabeth Drive and will include land west of the second Sydney airport.
Planning Minister Pru Goward today said the project is crucial to the future economic growth of Western Sydney.
“The experts have told us that by 2031 an estimated 2.9 million people will call Western Sydney home – around 1 million more than currently live in the region,” Ms Goward said.
“We are planning for the future by locking in land for jobs between major roads and the new airport the Commonwealth has announced for Badgerys Creek”.
