Anzac Highway underpass open for walkers and cyclists

The final major piece of the Marino Rocks Greenway – the $2 million Keswick Path – has been officially opened.

Transport Minister Stephen Mullighan said the underpass beneath Anzac Highway and Greenhill Road would give uninterrupted access to and from the city for cyclists and walkers.

“This new underpass is an important link in the Marino Rocks Greenway and connects existing paths on either side of this busy intersection,” he said.

“Keeping cyclists away from the intersection will provide a much safer option for them – and they will save time too.”

“Greenways are important linkages connecting local streets with off-street paths, creating direct cycling routes and access to public transport stops and stations.

“The underpass improves access to the Adelaide Showground station on the Belair, Seaford and Tonsley lines, and provides an additional connection from the suburbs to the city.

“It also gives about 1,000 daily users of the Mike Turtur Bikeway a new way to the CBD.” The construction of the disability-compliant underpass included:

  • a sealed bitumen and concrete path
  • installation of post and sleeper retaining wall
  • installation of LED path lighting
  • excavation of slopes to align the new path
  • relocation of the billboard south of the Anzac Hwy bridge.

Mr Mullighan said when completed later this year, the Marino Rocks Greenway will provide a safe, direct, continuous and attractive link from the city to the southern suburbs.

“The 15 kilometre route begins at the Anzac Highway/West Terrace shared use path in the Parklands, and connects to the existing Coast to Vines Trail at Marino Rocks,” he said.

The path completes the Adelaide Showground Station project, jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian Governments as part of the Goodwood/Torrens Junction upgrade.
