New Circular Quay upgrade revealed

Upgrades proposed for Circular Quay include more modern, double storey and accessible wharves plus new retail facilities.

The NSW government will generate the upgrade’s funds by selling ground leases of several hotels and office properties around the harbour foreshore deemed to not be of long term strategic importance.

NSW Premier Mike Baird said the area was overdue for an update due to its important location within the harbour and as gateway to Sydney.

“Circular Quay should be the jewel of Sydney Harbour and today we are committing at least $200 million to make it shine,” Mr Baird said.

Construction is expected to begin in 2019.
