A message from our CEO & Founder, Joseph Chou
As I reflect on the many achievements and challenges of the past year, one key theme keeps resurfacing.
There are currently about 7.2 billion people in the world today. We’re all working hard in life, and yet, there are so few people in the world who make it to the top.
According to Forbes, there are 2,043 billionaires in the world today – representing a tiny 0.00000028% of the world’s population. Moving all the way down to millionaires i.e. people with wealth (outside of their family home) of US$1 million, there are about 17.9 million people. This still only represents 0.00248% of the world’s population. So, what of the remaining 99.99752%?
Common sense tells us that while most of us are unlikely to get to the top of the wealth pyramid, most of us are not even aware of what we need to do to get to the next level up from where we are. Or, why we should even try to.
But the fact of the matter is, building wealth and building a nest egg for your future should be an utmost priority in life.
The stats tell us that the 9% of our salaries we’re putting into our super every year falls significantly short of what is needed to live a comfortable life after retirement. Not to mention that nowadays, because we are living longer than ever before, we also need to be able to live comfortably off our super for a few decades, as opposed to just 10 – 20 years at most.
Due to the strong Sydney market in recent years, there are many people who have done very well in property – and may well have joined the ranks of the world’s millionaires. Yet for many of them, this success is ‘accidental’ rather than the result of any kind of strategic plan.
You can be certain that those at the top of the wealth pyramid did not make it there accidentally.
Rather, you will find the common factors the world’s wealthiest individuals possess include: an awareness of the need to deliver value in their careers; to continually and strategically invest what they earn; and to have the tenacity to continue through the harder times. They are working smarter, not necessarily any harder than the rest of us.
At Ironfish, we recognise that strategic property investment, as a means of building wealth for your future, is a serious and complex task. It can also often feel like a long and lonely journey. But we also know that it is an extremely rewarding journey if you see it through – and that’s why we do what we do.
Just as a Grand Slam tennis champion travels with their complete entourage – the coach, the physio, the psychologist – to give them the edge and to give them all the support they need to win. So too, do we aim to be your coach, your mentor, to be the guiding force that changes your life for the better.
We also don’t claim to be able to do on our own – it is not simply about relying on your Strategist alone to support you through your investment pathway. We also can surround you with the best team – some of the best solicitors, accountants and brokers – to make your investment experience easier and with greater opportunities for success.
So, I want to take the opportunity now to congratulate all our investors for having the courage, foresight and understanding to take this path, and to make wealth building an important priority in your life.
Property investment is an important life-long project; it’s not because you’re paying too much tax, or because the Sydney market is booming, or because all your friends are investing. Property investment is about creating a nest egg for your future. And we’re here to help.
We are here for you in the easy times – when interest rates are low, lending is easy, vacancy rates are non-existent, and market conditions are perfect – if such a time or scenario ever exists! But more importantly, we’re here to support you through the inevitable challenges every investor faces. To be your sounding board, your touch point, a voice of reason; to help you to see the bigger picture and always keep the faith.
Because property investment in Australia has a history of performing well over the long term. All you have to do is be able to hold onto that property for as long as it takes to get the job done. It’s a simple game, though not necessarily an easy one.
So, well done to all our investors; you’re now officially on your way and you’re on the road to success. You can rest assured that you’ve got the best team behind you and know that you have a life-long partner in us.
